History

The Temporal Rift ability was removed from StarCraft II long ago, but has since returned with a different function. This is its old description: Air units within this field cannot move and take no damage from ranged attacks. More recently, it was on the Mothership then scrapped, then moved to the High Templar and renamed from Time Bomb to Temporal Rift.

The mechanics of the ability have changed along with its name. As Time Bomb, it merely stopped incoming projectiles, but as Temporal Rift, the ability will slow down the movement, attack, and ability casting of all enemy ground units. Therefore, it can now be used both offensively and defensively, by either slowing down an advancing foe, or controlling their army while you rain down long-distance damage.

As of BlizzCon 09, Temporal Rift was once again scrapped, then returned yet again by October 2009.
