The Supply Depot is the backbone of any Terran force, each depot provides 8 supply points. In StarCraft 2 it can also act as a gate to your base, by lowering into the ground on command. It also is a prerequisite for a
Barracks to be built. An
Orbital Command can use its energy to permanently upgrade a Supply Depot to provide 16 Supply. This also changes the appearance of the Supply Depot, and so makes the upgraded Depot a higher-priority target for attackers.
