Shakuras

Shakuras is a planet encased in eternal twilight and the homeworld of the Protoss Dark Templar. The rocks on the planet are of a deep blue color. The planet has seen its share of wars and battles throughout the Brood Wars, before then, it was a relatively peaceful place.

History

On the Protoss homeworld of Aiur, there was a political struggle between the brethren of the planet. There was a communal mind-link called the "Khala," to which every templar consigned himself to as part of the Protoss Religion. However, there were many of other tribes who refused to join with the Khala and wanted to keep their individualism. These people came to be known as the "Dark Templar," and were despised by their brethren. Soon, they were rounded up and exiled aboard an ancient Xel'Naga vessel from Aiur.

The Dark Templar were, at first, a nomadic tribe that traveled through the stars, and planets. Eventually, they fell upon a planet that was set in continual twilight, giving its ground a dark blue appearance. The planet was a beautiful sight to the Dark Templar, and most importantly, it carried an ancient relic from the past: a Xel'Naga Temple. So fascinating was the temple that the Dark Templar decided to settle on the planet and study the temple.

Despite the beauty of Shakuras, the Dark Templar needed to adapt to the harsh environment of the planet. However, they managed to survive and made the world the Dark Templar homeworld. It was kept secret from the rest of the Protoss. The leaders of the Dark Templar were the prelate, Zeratul, and the Matriarch, Rasazagal. Notwithstanding their new homeworld, the Dark Templar never forgot Aiur, nor their duty to it. And they secretly sought every opportunity to serve and protect Aiur.
