The Probe is the most basic of the protoss units. Probes perform all manual labor such as the warping in of buildings, as well as mining both gas and mineral resources. Probes warp in all Protoss buildings. Once a Probe begins the warp in process, it can leave and do other things and the building will warp in on its own.

The tiny Probe was designed by the Khalai to lay the foundation for Protoss colonies on hostile worlds where living workers would be at too great a risk. They also produce and plant the warp-beacons that allow them to teleport buildings from Aiur to distant planets.
