The Medic was initially in the game, and was very similar to its SC1 version. However, Blizzard felt that it's lack of mobility hindered the Reapers, as the medics could not keep up with these fast moving, terrain hopping units, and could not be expected to provide reliable healing support during base raids. This gave rise to the idea of a flying healing unit, the Medivac.

One change to the Medic that was confirmed before it was eventually removed, was a new ability called Flare. Rather than the blinding Optical Flare of SC1, this ability revealed a small area in the fog of war, and was ideal for spotting enemies on higher ground.
The Medic and the Dropship have been combined into a new unit, the Medivac which can transport and heal units. It is possible (as with many scrapped units) that the Medic will be available in the Map Editor, and may even be a part of the Terran single player campaign.
