Wow this is huge news, StarCraft 2 will be released as a Trilogy, three seperate games after another. Each game will contain one chapter of the Single Player campaign and each episode will have its own main hero (Raynor, Kerrigan, Zeratul). They will be called:
Blizzard wrote:The epic story of StarCraft II will span a trilogy of games, with each game’s single-player campaign focusing on a different race. The first game will go into great depth telling the tale of Jim Raynor and the terrans. Two expansion packs will continue the story, delving separately into the saga of Kerrigan and the zerg, and that of the mystic protoss. By structuring the story this way, each campaign can be substantial, lengthy, and include meaningful choices for the player. Each campaign can also include more missions (the developers are targeting 26 to 30 for the first game alone), more interactive settings for players to explore, and more pre-rendered and in-game cinematics than would have been possible within a single game. Attendees also got a see several new cinematics, including a minute of the StarCraft II intro movie and an early peek at a dream sequence related to the Queen of Blades' origin.
No word on pricing or release schedule yet, but this way they can release the game without having to wait for all the single player content (which will be massive). Each single player chapter is said to have 25+ hours of gameplay, and have it's own seperate ending (no cliffhangers).
All multiplayer content will be included in the first release, and the next two chapters will be sold as expansion packs.

No it won't be 3 full priced games, it'll be one full priced with 2 expansions. And tbh it's for the better, would you rather play Terrans and all multiplayer next year, or have to wait until 2010 for everything?

I really hope they price it like one full game and two expansions, but since each is planned to be stand-alone (unless I'm mistaken), buying the entire SC2 single player will probably cost more than it and 2 expansions. But, on the other hand, that means I'll have extra CD keys to play multiplayer online without actually purchasing the exact same thing multiple times (I have multiple computers on a LAN and so to play multi online together we need multiple CD keys...so if we do all want to play SC2 together, we'd need three copies anyway).

I AM going to buy all 3 no matter the cost..and Blizzard knows that

Really? What makes you say that? All the WoW expansions were priced way below what a normal full priced game costs. If they were greedy they'd do what EA does and push a new mediocre title (Fifa/Madden/Nhl) regularly and charge full price. Instead they gave fans massive new content at a lower price.
Also, they sold all their games for next to nothing in China to compete with the rampant piracy there. In turn they got a huge fanbase and WoW became successful. EA charges the very maximum price for every title, shuts down online servers to force players to buy the new version of the game, and pushes draconian DRM on their paying customers, they are what you would call a greedy publisher.

smart cever i will buy them all no matter what! i just hope they will make zerg and prottoes expansions more than just the single player add new units or something. i dont like the idea of the terran episode to have more sales cause its the one that gives you multiplayer and skirmish, thisis stupid, all of them should and will give you that, its like Dawn of War actually, they are splitting the campaign to get more time and money, and add 1-2 new units in its expansion for every race so everything will be great....

And about Blizzard being greedy... in general if you most WoW players they'll say "Duh..they are!". There were even some rumors that SC2's Bnet will be like WoW- with monthly Subscriptions. But for some reason I now changed my mind and I believe BLizz make an awesome game and even if they ddevide it to 3 seperate ones, the total cost shouldn't be way more than what you'd normally pay for 1 whole game. and hopefully NO subscriptions ^^

as asaid before fine by me with the trilogy, its very clear that they are not doing it only for the fans but for them self and pockets too, but now that they can compine it and make it worth its super.
they dont have time to finish the single player, they havent nail down almost nothing yet, so i expect Starcraft 2 Terrans sheeping in Summer of 2009 because there is more free time to play and they will have finished the Terrans and nailed down everything.
i also wait for a beta after Christmas to run for 3 months.
even if it will not cost less than a full game i dont care, More Pre-render cinematics is My BEST! i love Blizzards Cinematics, i have seen this 1 min with Zeratul fighting the Hydralisks...OMG!!!!! fracking super! the intro will be 4+ minutes!!!!!!
Go blizzard go you know how to get our money but make us happy given them. you are talanted !
