The seventh fansite Q&A, featuring questions from
SC2 Source, doubles as
Q&A Batch 56.
Blizzard answers seven of SC2 Source's questions. Here are three of the most interesting:
Cydra wrote:1. Are you still developing new units or are you satisfied with the amount of units for each race and, therefore, more concerned about the fine tuning and balancing? Our philosophy has always been to keep the amount of units for each race to a certain number to keep the gameplay tight, and we are satisfied with what we have right now in terms of that number. Once we head into beta we definitely evaluate the role of each unit and will potentially add or drop units as needed based on
feedback.
4. In the single player campaign of Warcraft III, even races like the Naga are playable temporarily. Is something like that planned for StarCraft II too?The single player campaign for StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will focus on the
Terran campaign, but there will also be a short series of missions where players take the role of
Zeratul and other
Protoss forces.
6. Will players be able to send resources to their allies? If so, will there be a limit to the amount of resources they are able to send?Yes, players can send and request resources among teammates but only after a few minutes into the game. The reason for this is to minimize imbalances that could be created by one player getting a massive early economic boost from his or her partner dumping resources at the outset of the game. There currently is no limit to how many resources you can share.

Care to elaborate? Judging from the response on TL.net and a couple other places, I seemed to get the impression this was approved by the community at large.

Listen to this logic. Resource sharing didn't exist in Starcraft. So therefor it is stupid to implement something that wasn't in the perfect original into the sequel.
This is practically the thinking logic behind all the things most of the people disagree on. MBS anyone? =p
I think RS(resource sharing) is an element that will most significantly blow away any usual (2+n) vs (2+n) (neN0) strategies and will have a great impact on the game. I just hope that it doesn't turn out to be bad. But there is certainly potential for great things.
It will complicate the mathcups that is for sure just in what way is the question. I will let Beta be the ultimate decider on that one.

Neither did half the units, the amazing graphics, or Battle.net 2.0. If the whole reason behind disliking a feature is because it "wasn't in SC1", then are you suggesting they just scrap SC2 because it isn't SC1? Not only are they making another game in the series, but they are doing just that; making another game in the series. If it was another SC expansion, I would consider agreeing with you here, Ipsar; but that logic is ridiculous, =|.

A. StarCraft was a great game. (valid premise, while it's of course subjective let's just say for these purposes it's true)
B. StarCraft did not have resource sharing. (valid premise)
C. Great games are great because of what they do or do not have. (invalid premise, it's partially true but it's also about how well it's implemented, how bug-free it is, and countless other factors)
D. StarCraft II will have resource sharing. (valid premise)
E. Therefore StarCraft II will not be a great game. (invalid premise)
And no, I don't agree with this either. I think that resource sharing and MBS will be good additions.
