I know it's a bit late for this... but I'm addicted to SC1 right now, insomuch that I started making (for like the third time) a Zerg Campaign.

Characters: Kheldrun (The New Agent of the Swarm - A Psionic Hydralisk)
The Overmind
Kerrigan
Raynor
Zeratul
Excer (Protoss Zealot Hero)

The basic premise is this: The setting begins on Aiur, a month after the Overmind landed there. He is creating a new agent of the Swarm. Why, especially when he created Kerrigan already? We do not know the answer yet. Regardless, he says he has a purpose in mind ever since he landed on Aiur, and wants this new agent (a creation embodied in a Hydralisk) to be the one to carry out the Overmind's purpose. It is the reason for this Hydralisk's creation.

This Hydralisk is different from others: 1) He has free will like Kerrigan does. 2) He has extensive psionic powers, enough to control a large brood.

Missions: The first two missions take place on Aiur before the Overmind is killed by Tassadar. The first mission is a basic "take control of a base and kill the protoss" mission. Mission 2 is an escape mission, where your base gets annihilated in the first 5 minutes of the game, and you have to escape to the Overmind, but then... something happens that separates the Overmind and his new agent.

That's about how far I've gotten, I won't tell more to avoid spoilers, but I really want to finish this one.

Here's the current map info:
Map 01: Size - 192x128; Terrain - Jungle
Map 02: Size - 128x128; Terrain - Jungle
Map 03: Size - 128x128; Terrain - Twilight
Map 04: Size - 96x192; Terrain - Twilight
Map 05: Size - ??x??; Terrain - ??

Download: http://runestonelibrary.pbworks.com/f/KheldrunCampaign04.zip - First to Forth missions.
http://runestonelibrary.pbworks.com/f/KheldrunCampaign01.zip - Modified version of the first mission.

Now, why not wait until SC2 (especially since I could use it to GIVE psionic powers like Psi Storm to the Hydralisk with the editor) to do this? Because it takes place when the Overmind is still alive. Granted, I don't know what will be available in SC2's editor, but I don't want to take a risk right now.

Things I'm concerned about at the moment:

Kheldrun's Damage - Currently, he does only 24 (+2 per upgrade) damage. I noticed that most SC1 Heroes (not counting Zerg ones, except Duran and Kerrigan) do much more than that. I was thinking of lowering his base armor to 2 from 3, and increasing his damage to 40 (+2 per upgrade) to balance him. What do you think? (so far, I tested 40 damage and 2 armor, and it seems only to affect the 4th Mission's beginning part.

Mission 04's Difficulty - I'm not sure if Mission 04 is too hard or too easy for the current build. I usually cheated through it to test it and I'm really sick of the level because of all the testing. :P Anyway, I people to test it (after testing Missions 01-03) to see how difficult it is.

Excer - About him. What do you think? Is there a better name I could give him?

Dialogue - How does the dialogue hold up in my campaign?

Anyway, anyone want to share thoughts or ideas on this campaign?

Interesting. Let me guess, ur fav zerg unit is the hydra. Sounds like it could be a nice project. I'm sorta interested in playing it once ur done.

Maybe you could have tryouts for voicing the various characters to spice up the briefing. Just a thought though. I imagine that it might be good to experiment with various voice filters/scramblers before hand to find a good way to get the echo-buzz characteristic of the zerg voices.

It's actually going to be a "silent" campaign. I can't voice-act worth beans and I have NO clue how to make Zergish voices. Also, I can't replace the Hero Hydra's voice because it shares the same generic voice with normal Hydras.

Thanks for the input. As soon as I finish mission 2 (that is, the briefing), I'll upload the missions and post them here for people to try out.

BTW: This WILL be longer than two missions. It's just that's how far I've gotten. XD

Doubt I could either, but I know there will be plenty of ppl who will want to try.

I can't do that either, but that doesn't mean that others won't. Ask for help. Someone out there has to have an idea of how blizzard pulled it off.
I suck at AI scripting too, but that hasn't stopped you.

I don't think anyone was expecting you to go THAT far.

Yeah, you did imply that.

Seems ok, bit easy, fairly straight forward. A little voice acting would add a lot of flavor. I hope i'm not the only one who thought it was worth the time to play it.

Did you play both missions? I got feedback that the second one was difficult. And how about the size of the first map? How did you feel about that?

Yeah, voice acting would add flavor to it... good voice acting.

I haven't gotten a chance to check out the Maps just yet, but I would recommend changing the OP a little bit to be a little more organized. Something like:

Character List: Character Name (Unit)
Lore: Lore here.
Map Info:
  • Name of Map:
    • Size
    • Terrain
    • Players

First mission was pretty easy with enough guys. Second one was more annoying than difficult (I'm not always patient enough). Granted, I had a few moments where i thought i would get screwed, but then i ran into a bunch of guys to bolster my ranks and everything was cool. Once I got 2 guardians, it became more of a battle of patience than anything else.

I see. Hmmm... I'm not sure how to improve the second one.

Again, though, what did you think of the size of the first map? I currently got feedback that it was a little too big, and I didn't want to remake it in a smaller size, so I added a base (Yellow) and make a land bridge between teal and the main continent. Though, playing it myself, Mission 1 has become quite difficult to do. I just, personally, can't handle three comps at the same time.
