Patch 1.1.3 Released

Patch 1.1 Released

Patch 1.1.0 has just been released. It features balance adjustments to all three races, improvements to the SC2 editor, support for Nvidia 3D Vision, and many other small improvements and bug fixes. Update: Patch 1.1.1 is being rolled out, fixing bugs.

Achievements over 5000!!!

It's been a while since we've updated the news, as you can see everyone's been a bit busy! What better way to come back than with a nice internet meme from our favorite Dragonball Z character? Anyway, I'm sure you all know that SC2 has since been released and people have been getting Achievements left and right... However, let's not forget where this all started; here on the Pod!

Back in February of 2009, we announced our own custom Achievement Generator and we have recently reached 5000 and are steadily nearing 6000. With the Generator, you're given a default background and style, but you're able to choose from a variety of icons and you have the ability to set your own title, description, sign it with your username, and/or include a cool progress bar to show your "progress" with the achievement.

The lucky 5000th achievement creator was STAR FANAtic as seen below...

So go ahead, why not give it a shot?

Beta Phase 2 Started

Update: Beta Phase 2 has started! It will run through July 19.
There are no patch notes yet, (Update: they're posted now, and a notable undocumented change is that the editor won't work without being authenticated on B.net once - which means that at the moment it's useless; the editor also got a new icon and a somewhat reworked interface and buttons) but a large patch (about 470 MB) has recently been released, and there are some preliminary reports that the beta is back up in the EU.

Update: After very negative feedback, Blizzard has retracted this. They will not be adding Real ID names to the forums (at least not now).
Blizzard has announced that all posts on the official forums will show the user's Real ID name (and optionally a primary character name), to curb trolling and have other positive effects. As you may expect, this move has received a mixed reaction.

StarCraft II - Join the Dominion

Blizzard has just put up a promotional website for SC2: Join the Dominion. Read the announcement and FAQ for more information, and visit the new site.
So what's this all about? The site has three major parts:

An entrance exam: basically a "Which Terran SC2 unit am I?" quiz
A Propaganda Contest: design a propaganda poster for any SC2 race, with the best (as chosen by the community using Facebook Likes as votes) winning a huge prize package
Unlockable content: as everyone interacts with the site, (including Liking or Sharing it on Facebook) a counter will count up, and every 5% it goes up, "a new section will light up, unlocking an exclusive piece of content. When the bar is completely filled, the final (and most awesome) unlockable item will be awarded."

Update: The bar has reached 50% and a video has been unlocked: A New Era. The second part of the video will be unlocked at 75%, so keep using the site!

125 keys have now been distributed, time for the second wave. For the last 25 keys we are doing something different, depending on your user id you will have a delay until you can claim a key. A low user id means a short delay, check the beta key page to see if you are eligible. Patch 13

Patch 13 was released today. This includes a great deal of changes, and will accompany another database reset. Check out all the changes here, and the SitRep for the reasoning behind the balance changes. Some of the most notable changes include:

No more name.identifier, now there will just be a name.
Map publishing enabled, read this post for details and help publishing
The Copper league was removed, and the Diamond was added above Platinum (apparently people weren't understanding which of Copper and Bronze were better)
3v3 and 4v4 enabled
Tons of balance changes, including several Zerg spell changes, partly designed to make the Ultralisk more useful.

BlizzCon 2010 Tickets June 2

Blizzard will begin selling tickets to BlizzCon 2010 in two separate batches on June 2 at 7 p.m. Pacific time and on June 5 at 10 a.m. Pacific time. BlizzCon will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California on October 22 and 23. See Blizzard's press release for full details.

1st Beta Phase Ending May 31

Blizzard has just announced that the first phase of the SC2:WoL beta will end in all regions on May 31st. A second phase will happen closer to the launch date of July 27th.
